Would You Rather Questions for Kids
150 would you rather questions for kids, sorted by age: 4 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12, plus a set for the classroom. They are short, kind and silly enough to read at dinner, in the car or at school. For a tap-to-vote version, try the Kids deck in our would you rather game.
Stuck for a question? Let the phone choose one from the lists below.
How to play would you rather with kids
- Read the question slowly, and repeat both options for younger kids.
- Let everyone choose by pointing, holding up one or two fingers, or standing on one side of the room.
- Ask one child why. Any reason counts, even “because it’s purple”.
- Let a kid read the next one once they can.
Keep the pace quick with little ones. Three or four questions is plenty for a four-year-old; a ten-year-old will happily go for twenty.
Which age group to use
| Group | Questions | What they are like |
|---|---|---|
| Ages 4 to 6 | 40 | Three to six words per option, things a preschooler has seen: animals, snacks, bath time. |
| Ages 7 to 9 | 50 | Make-believe and silly rules. Most kids this age can read them on their own. |
| Ages 10 to 12 | 45 | Choices with a real trade-off, about screens, chores, friends and the future. |
| Classroom | 15 | School-day topics for a mixed group of 6 to 12. |
The ages are a starting point. Mixed-age siblings usually do best with the 7 to 9 group, where the youngest can follow and the oldest still laughs.

Tips for parents and teachers
- Answer one yourself first. Kids copy the length of your answer, so give a reason, not just a word.
- Let them change their mind after hearing someone else. Explaining the switch is good practice.
- Turn a quiet child’s answer into a question for the group: “Who else would pick the giraffe?”
- Stop while it is still fun. Ending on a laugh makes them ask for it again tomorrow.
Classroom games with would you rather
- Two corners. Name one side of the room for each option. Kids walk to their pick, and one child from each corner gives a reason.
- Exit ticket. At the end of the lesson, each child writes their answer and one sentence explaining it.
- Persuade me. Pairs take opposite sides and get thirty seconds each to win the class over. The class votes again afterwards.
- Write a pair. Each child writes their own question with two equally good options. Read the best ones to the class.
Frequently asked questions
What age are these would you rather questions for?
Ages 4 to 12, sorted into three age groups plus a classroom set. The youngest group uses three to six words per option, so a four-year-old can follow along.
Are these questions safe for kids?
Yes. Nothing is scary, romantic or violent, and nothing comments on how anyone looks. A few in the 10 to 12 group mention allowance or a sibling; the classroom set never asks about home.
Can teachers use them in class?
Yes. The classroom set has 15 questions written for a group of six- to twelve-year-olds, and every age group works for a morning meeting. The classroom games below include Two corners, which gets kids out of their seats.
Is there a version kids can tap and vote on?
Yes. The would you rather game has a Kids deck of 40 more questions, where each tap adds a vote and shows how other players chose. Those 40 are different from the 150 here.
What if my child cannot pick?
That is fine. Ask which option sounds more fun for one minute, or let them pick both and explain how that would work. The talking matters more than the answer.
